MUMS REFERENCE WORKING GROUP
“Before Parent 2 Parent I wouldn’t leave the house or go to any other groups. Now i have the confidence to go anywhere i want with my children”.
Many care leavers are also young parents and without access to a strong support network, making the transition to parenthood can be overwhelming.
Yet we know from first-hand experience that care leavers who are given the right support, at the right time, can develop the skills to become confident, competent parents.
If you want to find out how we can help please get in touch.
We are looking for volunteer parenting angels. Are you interested in being involved?
"We just need a helping hand sometimes.... someone who I know is there for us.... who understands".
"I couldn't get out to get milk for my baby girl.... you answered your phone and you brought me some milk".
We meet regularly so that we can get to know each other. We discuss lots of topics; specifically those topics around your parenting experience with all support services and what was great and what could have been better.
The group is made up of people from the SMBC Leaving Care team, young care experienced parents, Pure Insight team members and volunteers.
Topics discussed so far have been around education, services available, sexual health and preventative measures. The voice of all young people is so important and the team at SMBC take time to listen and take on board feedback. They then feed this into local authority meetings, where discussions around how things can change take place.
These meetings are for you; your voice is heard and what you have to say matters.
If you think you have something to offer the group then please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
