Stockport care leavers Christmas
Meet Rayne, she’s not much into Christmas; however she is into making sure others have a good Christmas.
Rayne is a Stockport care leaver and has been involved with Pure Insight for many years. Rayne has helped in previous years with an initiative led by Lemn Sissay to ensure that as many young care leavers as possible get a good Christmas. This year Rayne and Oliver (a volunteer mentor and a member of our Board of Trustees) decided that we should do a Stockport Christmas Day in support of all our local care leavers. They both have BIG ambition and are not afraid of the hard graft – and hard graft it is.
This year they are aiming to have at least 30 young care leavers to Christmas Dinner. This is what they need to do to make this happen:
Raise £5k – see the link at the end of the BLOG if you would like to donate
Collect as many gifts as possible – see the information at the end of the BLOG
Source a venue – DONE
Get enough volunteers to pickup the young people and take them / drop them off at the venue (IN PROGRESS), help cook dinner (DONE), decorate the room the day before (IN PROGRESS), source the decorations and Christmas tree (IN PROGRESS), help during Christmas Day (IN PROGRESS), help clean up after the party (IN PROGRESS)
Organise enough food and goodies for 30 (plus their children) young people (IN PROGRESS)
If Rayne doesn’t do Christmas, then why is she helping you might ask? Well I asked Rayne and this is what she had to say:
‘I want to make Christmas nice, a lot of care leavers are one their own on Christmas Day and that’s not good. The lead up to Christmas can also be triggering for some young people; including myself. It should be a time for family and friends so we want to create that. Some young people would not get any gifts if it wasn’t for Pure Insight. Christmas can bring thoughts of what you don’t have (family/friends), past Christmas’ where it wasn’t a good memory (too much drink, arguments in the family etc), no funds to buy anything or do anything nice over the Christmas period…. The list goes on. Pure Insight are busy collecting donated gifts so that all our young people will get a bag of presents that are personalised to them. It shows that someone has thought about you, someone has bothered. It shows that you are part of an extended family’.
We still need presents and help to fund our Christmas dinner.... CAN YOU HELP? Thank You x
