Meet our Janine…. to say that we believe her to be one of the most inspirational, giving, compassionate people we have met would be an understatement!
Janine is moving onto pastures new, still working with young people and moving to support the Leaving Care Team at SMBC. She will still very much be part of the Insight family as we continue to support each other.
Janine started working for Pure Insight in April 2013. She was completing a Youth and Community certificate at Stockport College and needed some work experience – with young people. Pure Insight was just being started at that point so was a perfect opportunity for Janine to add her own touches to the role. She volunteered with us for 14 months running Café Zest! An opportunity for a youth and engagement worker role came up and Janine decided to interview for the role. Janine was formally interviewed and then interviewed by a number of young people.
I asked Janine what she loved about working for Pure Insight and this is what she said:
‘I love being with young people. I thrive when I’m physically with them; whether at the café, out on a trip, supporting them in meetings…. I LOVE IT. Working with our young people gives me a sense of belonging, being needed.
A highlight of my time with Pure Insight was when I won the Key Influence Award at the Greater Manchester Care Leavers Awards in January this year. I had no idea I’d even been nominated. All the young people from Café Zest were there, so were the Pure Insight team and some of the Leaving Care Team.
I now BELIEVE in myself more; something I never thought I’d hear myself say. I also love that our young people believe in me to. Working at Pure Insight is more than just a job; you want to go ‘above and beyond’. There is always a point in what we do. Working at Pure Insight is like being part of a big family.
It is always a shock to me too when I go to present at various meetings and people who I’ve never met before recognise me from either things they have read or what others have said about me. My job is everything to me.’ This is what some of Janine’s Insight family have to say about her: ‘Janine - what can I say, her courage and kindness are the obvious things that make her stand out from the crowd, not to mention her incredible hair and beautiful face which lights up any room. Her ability to work with young people comes from a passion to make sure every young person gets a chance to move forwards, no matter how difficult their circumstances or presenting difficulties. She has no idea just how amazing she is and it is this humbleness that sees her make a success of everything she does. She is well respected at all levels because of her insight, empathy and passion to make things better for young care leavers’.
‘Janine is a real life superhero and an inspiration to other care leavers! I have never met anybody as passionate about their work as Janine is, she is absolutely committed to making a positive difference to the lives of care leavers and she has the biggest of hearts’.
‘She is amazing to watch her interact with young people, she knows and understands them. She is kind, giving and caring. She goes above and beyond. She is truly loved by the people she works with and the young people she supports’.
‘Janine is the proverbial heart of the Insight Family. She is the first person many young people turn to in a crisis because they acknowledge that she will take action and offer the most effective support that the given situation will allow. Her commitment, empathy and selflessness is admirable. She demonstrates honest, caring qualities that resonate strongly with the needs of the young people that she has contact with and it is plain to see that she gives 100% of herself to her role. Janine is an awesome, inspiring, valuable and valued member of our team. She has a heart of gold and worth her weight in gold to the Insight Family.
Good luck with your new role Janine, you deserve it and more. We all love you to the moon and back xxxx
