June.... what a busy month!
We have had such a busy month in June we wanted to share with you our updates.....
Our very own Sarah Sturmey has been presenting to Young Minds Matter Panel to share successes of our first year Psychological Wellbeing Service in Cheshire East. Hoping for next 2 years funding....
We had a very successful time at Bramhall Festival - thank you to everyone who supported us on the day. The guys raised £180 which will go towards trips out for our young people and their children.
We have received the amazing news that our Big Lottery bid has been successful! This will enable us to expand and enhance our existing mentoring, engagement and mental health services across our existing areas of Stockport, Trafford and Cheshire, and also move into a new area to launch our mentoring services there! This funding will help us to support the most disadvantaged and vulnerable young people at times and places suitable to them. Take a look at our vacancies page if you are interested in our new roles. Thank you Big Lottery x
Thanks to the success in Cheshire of our psychological wellbeing service, we have been able to expand this and have recently recruited a new psychological worker in Stockport. Our young people panel put potential candidates through their paces to find the best man for the job. Our successful candidate Matt has extensive experience of working with young people in a range of institutional care settings and has a passion for empowering care leavers. Matt will be joining the team us any day now. Welcome to the team Matt.
Last month Fiona, Ami and Janine from the Insight team, supported a group of young people to have their voice heard at the Stamp Out Stigma - Time for Answers and give their thoughts on the current state of mental health services for young people in Manchester. The event was organised by our clinical partners Beacon Counselling and featured an inspiring panel of influencers and decision makers, including GM Mayor Andy Burnham.
Janine has been very busy this month, co producing the SMBC corporate parenting video,
engaging with care leavers and care experienced community on accessing files, supporting care leavers to access activities within the community and listening to Care Leaver voices at the Care Leaver Forum.
Tracey has been supporting new and existing parents with the some of the challenges of parenthood. She has been running weekly parent and child group and supporting parents 1:1 with accessing community support.
Jackie, Fiona and Jackie M have completed another round of mentor training in Trafford and Stockport. Our new mentors are now in the process of being matched.
We are looking for more volunteers to join us and are holding information evenings 6-8 pm on the following dates :
22nd July New Life Church Congleton CW12 4EY Cheshire
24th July The Beacon Centre 72 Greatsone Road, Stretford M328QS Trafford
